Well, it's Saturday and I believe I owe you a tutorial. When I posted about my Entryway with our Nativity, I eluded to a tutorial featuring the DIY Snow Frosted Pine Cones. These were so easy to make that I'm not quite sure why I've never done it before. I will definitely be making a bunch more of these next year {after I've gathered a bunch of free pine cones ;-)}.
Here's what you need: pine cones, white acrylic paint, ModPodge, sponge brush and Epsom Salt.
Start by painting the petals of the pine cone with white acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry.
Apply ModPodge liberally over the petals and smoosh it towards the inside of the pine cone too.
Finally, sprinkle Epsom Salt directly onto the wet ModPodged petals. Allow to dry completely before incorporating into decor.

That's all, folks! This is a super simple way to add some sparkle and shine to your winter greenery arrangements. Who knew that Epsom salt could be such a great craft supply?
I'm linking up at some of these great parties and

That's great. The Epsom salt would be much cheaper than glitter I imagine.
ReplyDeleteLove how the pine cones turned out.....so pretty!xo
ReplyDeleteThese are so adorable!!!! I love the epson salts as snow its a really pretty touch! I would love if you would share this over at my blog hop http://www.ablossominglife.com/2012/12/frugal-crafty-home-3.html
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found your post as I've been wondering how to do this. Miss Mustard Seed did this also but she used German Glass glitter. I don't want to have to order something and pay s/h so like the idea of using the epsom salts. Have seen several posts using epsom salts for all kinds of things, quite a handy crafty tool.
ReplyDeleteYour pine cones look so pretty and snowy. Happy Christmas to you and yours.
What a great idea, so simple (free) and so lovely. I even have pine trees. Wow......may do this if I can dry some out.
