I have always enjoyed making birthday cakes for my kids. For some reason the kids have never really liked the storebought cakes...it must be the frosting. Anyway, each year for their big day, we've come up with a theme for the party and it usually dictates the theme of the cake. So, as we start thinking through the details of my little girl's big day coming up next month, I thought I'd share with you some of the Girly Birthday Themes through the Years.
I'm not sure what happened to the pics of her first three birthdays. They are either stored in an old computer or printed out in an album packed away. But here are some from the last few years. First up...Hello Kitty. This cake was really easy to make. Just 13x9 cake and a round cake pan to cut out the Hello Kitty head. One of the activities we did at the party was a Pin the Bow on Hello Kitty game. We also had Hello Kitty movies playing as the background.
For her 5th birthday, I attempted the Pampered Chef Barbie Cake. I baked the cake in the PC glass mixing bowl, the wrapped a new Barbie's legs in plastic wrap and pushed her down into the cake. A huge crack developed in the cake, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed by a lot of pink frosting. There were also lots of "Say No to Crack" cracks ;-)The birthday girl loved the cake and enjoyed celebrating her big day with those she loves most.
For her 6th birthday, we were in St. Louis for my husband's job and living in a hotel, so I wasn't able to bake a cake for my sweet girl. She had wanted to have a "fashion" party, so I picked up a delicious chocolate cake at Costco and added a tiara, some stars and a couple of plastic (pencil sharpener) shoes. Voila...a fashionable cake!
Number 7 birthday cake was a giant cookie "Wheel of Wow" for our Webkinz themed party. I baked up a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies in a large round pan and covered it with frosting and M&Ms. Colorful and Fun! Just like my sweet girl's personality. We played some fun games, had a scavenger hunt for the gems in their Crown of Wonder and made some beaded bracelets.Well, that brings up to this year. I'm not quite sure what the theme is yet. We are still working on it. I'll keep you posted on what we decide. Any ideas for a nine year old?
I'm linking up at some of these great parties and

Nici, those cakes are beautiful! What a lucky little girl to have such a talented mother. I'm glad you shared her 6th birthday cake. I would never have thought of taking a store bought cake and dressing it up. I'll have to remember that one. Have a great day!
